Music / Indie, Punk / Vienna, Austria

Through liberal use of feverish distortion, reverb and the eccentric vocals of Sophie Löw, Culk creates an indie sound with obvious roots in post-punk. While that may be a recipe from a well-worn book of nostalgia, the Viennese project updates the formula with a dreamlike intensity, fuses nineties shoegaze with neo-psychedelic effects and somehow manages to exist in a space between untamed, youthful prose and unpretentious introspection, even when choosing English over their native German.

The debut "Culk", released in February, isn't only an asset to Siluh Records, but also to the entire indie scene of the German-speaking countries—and, given some time, far beyond. When this band visits us in fall, we're sure to fall into a reverie.
