Current Swell

Music Indie, Folk Canada

Presented by: Nettwerk Music Group

Years ago they had been playing music just for fun in the backyards or on the beaches of Vancouver Island. But with every new performance Current Swell rounded up new fans. When the band posted their first song on the internet towards the end of the 2000s their fan community really increased.

In the meantime the band has released six albums with this fast, authentic folk-rock. This year has seen the release of “When To Talk And When To Listen” on Nettwerk. The four musicians even left their habitat on the coast of British Columbia for the recording to travel to Nashville, the country music stronghold. They recorded their album with prominent Grammy Award winner Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, Norah Jones). The songs are about various facets of emotional states: “It Ain’t Right” tells about spurned love, the two central songs deal with loss: “Marsha” is an inner dialogue into which singer Scott Staunton enters addressing his mother, who died from breast cancer at the age of 46 when he was just in 9th class. Guitarist Dave Lang wrote the title song “When To Talk And When To Listen” when his father-in-law was on his deathbed. Current Swell are already very successful in their hometown Canada but also in South America. The band for example has played in Vancouver in front of an audience of 45.000.
