Kim Sawol

Music / Folk, Singer-Songwriter / Korea, South

Presented by: Korea Creative Content Agency

If we’re talking South Korean songwriter folk music with Sunday evening vibes, it’s impossible not to mention what Kim Sa-wol has been doing the last few years. The singer with the warm breathy timbre made her debut as a solo artist in 2015 with the album “Suzanne”, having previously won two awards at the Korean Music Awards with Kim Hae-won – for best new artist and best new folk. Constantly on the search for new forms of expression, her follow-up albums "7120" (2017) and "Romance" (2018) saw her expand her style to include facets of blues, jazz and dream pop. Soaked like rain in the summer sky, Kim's music has always been permeated with a certain sense of ambivalence. Similarly, the songs from her album "Heaven" (2020) are well suited to melancholically accompany the end of a great love – or maybe the beginning of a new one. Her voice and a guitar is all she needs to create a spectrum of diverse moods, giving the listener ample opportunity to get lost within.
