Kübra Gümüşay – Sprache und Sein

Word / Spoken Word / Germany

Presented by: Keychange

In her book "Sprache und Sein" (language and being) she deals with the question of how our language shapes our thinking and our politics. Kübra Gümüşay shows how people as individuals become invisible when they are always seen as part of a group – and may only speak as such. But how can humans really speak as humans? And how can we all – in a time of ever harder, more hateful discourse – communicate differently? In a language that does not reduce people to categories but allows them to exist in all their many facets.

Kübra Gümüşay, born in Hamburg in 1988, has stood up for equal rights and discourse at eyelevel. In 2011, her blog "Ein Fremdwörterbuch" (A dictionary of foreign words) was nominated for the Grimme Online Award. At Reeperbahn Festival, Gümüşay will read from"Sprache und Sein".
