Laurent Bourque

Music / Indie, Singer-Songwriter / Canada

Presented by: Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA)

Laurent Bourque's artfully ornamented works sound like bold reminders to enjoy the present while it lasts, like melancholy and hope all in one. The Canadian singer-songwriter usually achieves this bittersweet ambivalence with nothing but a guitar and his voice, adding string arrangements and weightless synthesizers in the background.

After his debut "Pieces of Your Past," which netted him a Stingray Rising Stars Award in Canada, Bourque took a break and got away from it all for a while. It was through collaborating and exchanging ideas with other artists that he found a new direction. Over the course of the past year, Bourque recorded his new album "Blue Hour," a collection of softly shimmering indie folk gems—of which Bourque has crafted more than a hundred by now, and which he will share with us in September.
