Music / Folk, Pop / Netherlands

Presented by: Hamburg Music Business Association (IHM) DE

Her combination of instruments is as unconventional as the music itself: roosmarijn coaxes poignant pop sketches out of the viola, special effect instruments, a loop station and her elfish voice, elegantly defying the usual classifications. The Arnhem-based singer-songwriter focuses on subtle shifts in harmony, moving fluidly between chamber music and electronic experiments, without allowing songs like "Let Go" or "Hollow Heart" to seem too cerebral. On the contrary. Emotion and introspection are given plenty of scope, becoming the leitmotif of an authentic, contemporary kind of poetry which roosmarijn takes all the time in the world to compose. An antidote to hectic everyday life? Absolutely. With memories of Scandinavian song-writing and legitimate Nick Drake references that are more than mere quotations.
