The Haunted Youth

Music / Pop / Hasselt, Belgium

Faded sepia-tinted video shots, the grainy nostalgia of a long-forgotten polaroid and all the memories that can cling to it: The Haunted Youth from Belgium evoke feelings for a yesterday that may not even be their own. Nevertheless, the reverberating dream pop of the still very young quintet develops a certain longing for better times, if the speakers can just resound loud enough. A recipe for emotional resonance that is not old, but is implemented by the Limburg boys with an extraordinary flair for melodies and effects. Songs of the perceived ambiguity of “Teen Rebel” or “Coming Home” carry the bitter sweetness of unrequited love, but also the anticipation of everything that may be yet to come. This puts them in a rich tradition stretching from MGMT and DIIV to Slowdive and The Cure. Anyone who can relate to this spectrum of sounds is fairly sure to go into raptures with The Haunted Youth, whether just in their head or on the dance floor too.
