Since 2005, Birte Wiemann has been working at Cargo Records in Wuppertal, where she has managed labels such as Trustkill, Revelation, and Equal Vision, helped establish Record Store Day in Germany from 2010 onward, and implemented a B2B backend as a project manager. She is currently responsible for the D2C/fulfillment area and the associated systems and interfaces.

Alongside her work at Cargo Records, Birte Wiemann earned her PhD in English Literature from the University of Hull, UK, in 2013. She has been a member of the VUT board since 2016 and has served as Chairwoman since 2021. Since 2022, she has also been a member of the Supervisory Board of Initiative Musik.

Among the many topics driving VUT, Birte is particularly committed to a measured approach in the streaming debate, addressing the use of AI in our industry, and the MEWEM mentoring program for female, trans, and non-binary newcomers in the music business.
When given the choice, Birte will always favor physical formats.
