Dr. Simon Hembt

Simon Hembt is a counsel in Bird & Bird's Frankfurt office, advising on intellectual property, media and technology regulation across music, games and AI. He acts as one-stop counsel to rightsholders and platforms — on copyright and licensing (including synchronisation rights), platform compliance, and enforcement against piracy and unlawful content. Running through this work is a key focus on how generative and agentic AI is reshaping the creative industries: he advises on IP strategies for training data and AI-generated output, AI contracts and governance, and on the EU AI Act, in particular transparency and GPAI obligations. Co-editor of the International Handbook of AI Law and a regular speaker on media, copyright and AI.
