Johann Scheerer (*1982) is the founder and creative mind behind Clouds Hill, an internationally renowned music studio, label and publishing house based in Hamburg. As a music producer, he works with artists such as The Mars Volta, Peter Doherty, Alice Phoebe-Lou, At the Drive-In and Omar Rodríguez-López. As a record company and publisher, Clouds Hill manages the balancing act between young campaigns such as Friedberg, Ditty, Kadavar or the newcomers Agassi and ambitious, holistic catalog projects that set standards in music exploitation. With film productions such as the documentary “Omar & Cedric – If This Ever Gets Weird”, Clouds Hill brings music, film and storytelling together.
With his independent attitude, focus on analog production and a sense of the “impossible,” Scheerer has built Clouds Hill into a fully independent indie music company with global reach.
In addition to his work as a music and film producer, he is also the author of several novels, including the bestseller “We are then probably the relatives” (filmed by Hans-Christian Schmid in 2022), the coming-of-age novel “Unheimlich Nah” (2021) and his current book “Play” (2025), which tells of a music manager in the area of tension between touring life, art work and family.
Scheerer stands for creative independence, crossing boundaries between art forms and forward-looking strategies in music and cultural production.
