This date is in the past.

For more than ten years, pianist, musicologist, and research manager Michael Chizzali has been studying the rich musical traditions of the Thuringian region during the Early Modern period. A key area of his work focuses on the influences emanating from Italy and, with their melodic beauty, captivating rhythms, and compositional sophistication, that helped shape the history of Thuringian music from the 16th to the 18th century. Michael Chizzali studied piano at the Conservatory in Bolzano (Italy) and musicology (PhD in 2012 from the University of Innsbruck; habilitation in 2021 from the University of Mainz), and trained as a research manager through courses and continuing education programs. He currently serves as a research officer at the University of Bamberg and as a lecturer in musicology at the University of Mainz. Since January 2025, he has been chairman of the board of the AMT and aims to incorporate the association’s activities, particularly through his research focus on early music.
