Thomas Fischermann (born 1969) is an economist, political and social scientist by training and has been a journalist with the German weekly DIE ZEIT since 1996. He has headed the paper's bureaus in London, New York and Rio de Janeiro and coordinated its international economic coverage from Hamburg; since 2025 he additionally runs the ZEIT bureau in Southeast Asia. Fischermann is a co-founder of the Rainforest Journalism Fund at the Pulitzer Center. Together with indigenous co-authors from the Brazilian Amazon he has written two national bestsellers about people living at the far edge of the globalised economy, "The Last Lord of the Forest" (C.H. Beck 2018) and "The Shaman's Son" (Penguin/Heyne 2021).
