About

The programme is for young people aged between 16 and 21 seeking active involvement with society through their own cultural projects.

T.ree is a program developed by TONALi in cooperation with the Reeperbahn Festival, which is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media. It takes place at music schools all over Germany and is open to all young people. The programme does not expect attendees to have any prior musical knowledge or a place at a music school.

The programme’s seven modules teach the key basics of cultural and music management and provide insights into what the industry does and how it works.

Participants put what they have learned directly into practice by developing their own output projects alongside completing the programme. Participants are guided by specially trained course instructors.

In 2023, 61 young people from the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Berlin took part in the T.ree program and successfully implemented their independently designed projects. The highlight was the three-act concert evening at the Reeperbahn Festival.

Aim

The aim of the programme is to equip young people to think up, design, implement and evaluate their own cultural projects.

A special focus is on helping participants develop an all-round understanding of the social value and importance of art and culture.

In addition, the programme provides insights into the wide range of professions within the culture and music industry, and gives the youngsters a way in to the professional networks of TONALi and the Reeperbahn Festival.

« A great idea that fits in with our ideas of self-empowerment - of active, committed, self-determined music students who are not recipients of music pedagogy in their lessons, but co-creators. »

T.ree Showcase

After participating in the course programme during the year, T.ree participants can get actively involved in the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg and use the skills they have learned to independently organize a concert evening in front of a live audience.

Participants from all over Germany learn everything there is to know about cultural and festival management in workshops, sessions and behind-the-scenes insights, and can try out the different areas in a career-building way

From developing ideas to planning and actual implementation, participants are asked to be creative and take responsibility for shaping all production parameters.

« I have learned to value the work and, above all, I really enjoy being able to make a difference that ultimately results in something great. »
