With little more than a 15-year-old Mac and cracked studio software, Alessi Rose produced her first songs three years ago. Uploaded via YouTube and Instagram, ‘hate this part’ and ‘say ur mine’ (2023) quickly racked up seven-figure streaming numbers, leaving no doubt about the self-made singer–songwriter’s talent. Barely a year passed before the two EPs ‘Rumination As Ritual’ and ‘For Your Validation’ (2024) helped her achieve her definitive breakthrough. Although her songs – which oscillate between indie, alt-pop, and electropop – were early on compared with those of artists such as Olivia Rodrigo and Gracie Abrams, these are at best approximations. The British multi-talent also incorporates country, the melodrama of emo rock, and baroque instrumentation into her sound and points to influences ranging from Kate Bush to Taylor Swift. It’s an inspired prism of styles that allows her to draw on a rich tradition of recent pop history on the one hand but that crystallises her very own signature sound and links it to personal themes such as OCD, self-acceptance, and social alienation on the other hand. Her latest EP, ‘Voyeur’ (2025), adds another new facet to this.
