In his search for an authentic soundtrack to life in the new twenties, Andreas Schneider, aka Anda Morts, finds musical ways out of all manner of woes. The twenty-something from Linz sings about quarter-life crises and a sense of disorientation in today’s mad and troubled times. He explores the transience and hectic pace of urban daily life, as well as the struggles of his parents’ generation, as in ‘Adidas für Mama’ (2023), or the joys of a laid-back day hanging out with friends, as in ‘Leere Flaschen’ (2023). The set-up is as minimalist as it is effective. Schneider’s beer-soaked, raspy voice rattles over crisp drum machines, accompanied by raw guitars and a nostalgic DIY romanticism that he manages to evoke wonderfully, unpolished, on his EPs. Tracks such as ‘MORTS’ (2023) and ‘Montage’ (2024) already enjoy cult status in the Austrian punk underground, which was also treated last year to ‘ANS’ (2025), Anda Morts’ snotty, raw debut album. Anyone into genuine, gritty guitar music with heart and soul should definitely check out this guy when he’s here.
