Bye Parula
A Neapolitan, a Catalan, and a Chilean meet in Montreal, form a band, and record their first demo in just three days. What sounds like the beginning of an indie classic by Jim Jarmusch that was never made is actually the beginning of an indie band inspired by films and their soundtracks. As Bye Parula, the trio have already developed a style with their debut album, ‘I’ (2023), that draws on warm 90s folk rock as well as cinematic string arrangements from the aforementioned film scores and the pastoral songwriter poetry of Nick Drake. In keeping with their diverse cultural backgrounds, the band sound summery and relaxed on the one hand but also melancholic and thoughtful on the other, demonstrating remarkably well-crafted songwriting. Currently still considered a real insider tip on the European music scene, Bye Parula are well on their way to becoming connoisseurs of contemporary folk music. Don’t miss out while you still have the chance to say you saw them here first.
