Maciej Milewski didn’t acquire his musicality through his mother’s milk, but rather by chewing cinnamon gum as a child. His father was a saxophonist on a cruise ship, constantly travelling the Caribbean and the oceans. Every time he returned, he brought back soul and funk gems that were nowhere to be found in his native Poland – and cinnamon gum. That this would develop into a passion was not foreseeable in this form. It is all the more remarkable, then, how Milewski and his collective Cinnamon Gum have been shaking up the Polish soul scene for a few years now and are slowly gaining the recognition they deserve across Europe. Their debut EP ‘Moonwater’ (2023) and first studio album ‘The Cinnamon Show’ (2025) are prime examples of contemporary smooth soul and go down a treat – whether with your morning coffee, in the car after work, or in the evening with friends. Or indeed, live on stage. There, Cinnamon Gum present their precisely crafted artistry in a tight yet dynamic manner, always in good spirits yet always authentic, creating an atmosphere brimming with joie de vivre. Perhaps one of the best concert experiences on the continent right now? It’s not unlikely. Sceptics are welcome to see for themselves in September.
