Dream Nails
No, Dream Nails are definitely no nail salon reeking of acrylic – rather, they are the antithesis of the binary exploitation logic of a patriarchal industry. Formed in London in 2015, Anya Pearson, LucyKatz and Mimi Jasson have their roots in feminist activism, which is also what brought them together. The band's direction quickly crystallised: in the spirit of the riot grrrl movement of the early 90s, the three raise their voices and instruments against misogynistic politics and the complacency of bourgeois society. Songs like “Deep Heat” (2016) and “Vagina Police” (2018) make this clear right from the start. Although “songs” isn't quite right. The trio actually write witches' spells in musical form, cursing the status quo and its apologists. Old-school punk rock, a bit of queercore and the energy of three women who are sick of gender conventions and traditional role models all add up to one of the most exciting British bands of the moment. Dream Nails already showed they have a lot to say in terms of content and music with their debut album ‘Dream Nails’ (2020). The fact that their music has lost none of its relevance in the years since is underlined once again in 2025 with ‘Doom Loop’ and they are now finally bringing this sound to us in Hamburg.
