GANNA
With an unerring sense of tone and rhythm, harmony and arrangement, restraint and presence, Ganna Gryniva (aka GANNA) has been demonstrating for several years now what is possible at the intersection of experimental vocals, New Age and chamber jazz. Historical and contemporary boundaries blur in the sound of this Ukrainian artist, who was among the strongest voices speaking out against the war in 2022. This is evident on albums such as “Kupala” (2023) or last year’s “Utopia” (2025), where an unbridled determination is evident to bring her cultural heritage into the here and now using contemporary production methods, gentle beats and elaborate synth pads. The results are impressive, featuring a carefully composed neoclassical sound that draws on diverse stylistic references and incorporates nuances of nu-jazz as well as Ukrainian folk music. This harmonious rejuvenation finds its vocal counterpart in an elfin and versatile voice, but also its poetry and emotional resonance. Is it possible to resist this combination of ethereal intonation and eclectic instrumentation? Not a chance. Especially not when Ganna is performing live on stage.
