A bit like the nice musician pro next door, always broke but emanating real professional understatement, Marvin Horsch looks into the camera on the cover of his new album 'Sprechiamo!' (2025). And somehow that's what happens: the Cologne-based producer and multi-instrumentalist aka Gianni Brezzo is known in the Rhine metropolis for his exquisite jazzcapades. But he always has his feet firmly planted on the Persian carpet, so as not to lose any of that snug vibe. When he does this with nu jazz and instrumental hip-hop, as on his debut ‘New Magic’ (2019), it sounds just as classy as his loungey fusion jazz on ‘Tutto Passa’ (2022) or the rap collaboration with Bokoya on ‘Minari’ (2023). Brezzo is always good for a dignified summer soundtrack with instrumental fruit splashes and cocktail umbrellas in the drinks, even though his versatile works are always precisely arranged and atmospherically formulated. A creative mind whose ideas are almost sure to be with us for a long time to come, and who all jazz aficionados in this country should keep on their radar.
