The Jacques

As British as can be: The Jacques hail from London and Bristol and play acid indie rock yet navigate the one-way streets of conventional band development with unerring skill. In addition to their indie roots, Britpop and grunge, new wave and post-punk have been part of their repertoire from the very beginning. Their debut album, ‘The Four Five Three’ (2020), blends all these ingredients into a sound that is as poetic as it is psychedelic, for which they have been celebrated by all the tastemakers across the Channel, from BBC 6 Music to Huw Stephens to NME. As eclectic genre mashups, their songs are musically and thematically diverse and are influenced by absurdities in the spirit of Monty Python as well as by the socio-cultural decline of little Britain, to which they hold up a smeared mirror. Recent singles such as ‘Dead Man’s Garden’ and ‘Via Dolorosa’ (2025) show that they are well on their way to becoming a cult band in every respect.
