Kelvin Jones pres. MUPANI
Is it really possible to drop a single online, have a mate post it on Reddit, and land a major deal a few months later? What sounds like an unconventional screenplay by Todd Haynes is actually the story of Kelvin Jones’s breakthrough, which he celebrated first with his song ‘Call You Home’ (2015) and then with his debut album, ‘Stop The Moment’ (2015). That was almost exactly ten years ago. In one decade, the singer–songwriter – who was born in Zimbabwe – grew up in London, has been living and working in Germany since 2016, has become a phenomenon of modern soul pop, and has given hundreds of concerts. Tracks such as ‘Love To Go’ (2020) – a feature with Lost Frequencies and Zonderling – and the electronic beat pop of ‘Pillow’ (2022) have racked up tens of millions of streams on the relevant platforms. Internationally, he is also appreciated by fans and arts journalists like few other artists of his generation. And now, Jones is launching a new project with MUPANI that has been maturing for a long time and is finally coming to fruition. It’s a return to his roots, to a mixture of Afro-pop, 70s soul, and first-generation trap, which he will be bringing to the stage here with a fresh concept.
