With roots in Kinshasa in Congo, a home away from home in beautiful Munich, and a style with influences from all over the place, ranging from hip hop and Afrobeat to R&B and soul: Kokonelle is an artist of international stature who, since last year, has not just been shaking up her local music scene – she’s also been championing Black communities across Germany. Singles like “Fou” or “Unapproachable” (2025) reflect years of musical passion on the one hand, but also the urgency of her political and social commitment. Kokonelle sees herself as a multidimensional activist and performer, building bridges between cultures and social minorities. The aim: creating spaces of community and healing where people can connect with their own emotions and hopes and set themselves free from social structures. The vehicle for this is music, but also the multilingual approach of her lyrics, which are sometimes in German or Lingala, and other times in English or French. In fitting with this, her debut EP “Release” (2025) was released at the end of last year, and she will now be presenting it here for the first time in September.
