Lola Moxom
When mum and dad have a jazz fusion band together, musical talent and a stellar career are practically pre-programmed. Lola Moxom benefited enormously from her family’s inspiration, coming into contact with Prince and Jill Scott, Stevie Wonder and Yellowjackets at an early age through her parents’ record collection. However, she also quickly learnt what these legends so impressively exemplified: A unique style is always created by combining diverse influences and giving them a new spin. And that’s exactly what the 20-year-old Londoner does with songs such as ‘Cool With It’ and ‘7:21’ through a sound that is being rightly celebrated in the British R&B scene. Her debut EP, ‘OXO’, was released at the beginning of the year to rapturous applause from fans and the press alike, scoring slots in well-known playlists and blending R&B, soul, and pop to create an addictive sound. After a brilliant opening concert for Grammy-winner Alex Isley and a tour with FLO, she will soon be on stage with us in Hamburg for the first time.
