Straddling the line between tradition and experimentation, Madra Salach have forged their own unique artistic path. Against a backdrop of campfires and starry skies, this Dublin-based sextet crafts magnificently rugged songs that couldn’t care less about conventional structures of verses and hooks. Even after their first brilliant singles “I Was Just A Boy” and “Blue & Gold” (2025) last year, it wasn’t just in Ireland that everyone agreed: here we are witnessing something truly great unfolding and developing before our very eyes. Thus, the conventional folk canon is deconstructed with distortion and experimentation, yet respectfully reassembled. “We are undoubtedly a product of Dublin and Ireland – we could never ignore that,” frontman Paul Banks recently explained in an interview. Nevertheless, the music deals with change: on the one hand, social and cultural shifts within their homeland; but also the artistic developments the six musicians have undergone as a band over the last few years. Traditional Irish music and avant-folk, post-rock and singer-songwriter poetry, deeply honest vocals and delightfully sprawling instrumental passages coalesce on the debut EP “It’s A Hell Of An Age” (2026) into a completely unique soundscape in which to lose oneself. You’ll have your first chance to do so here in September.
