Maya Killtron

We’ve seen many a revival of many genres in recent years - but rarely has an artist translated the past into the present as successfully as Maya Killtron. The Canadian is seen as the new hope for modern boogie, earning this reputation with a series of great singles such as “Bad Decisions” (2017) and “Like Water / Step It Up” (2023) over the last ten years or so. As a songwriter, violinist and producer, she also likes to take the reformation of modern boogie from A to Z into her own hands, but also frequently appears in top-shelf collaborations with colleagues such as Italian producer Ivan Makvel or Vancouver-based synth wizard Jonny Tobin. Maya Killtron reminds us that modern boogie isn’t just some cheesy pigeonhole for disco and retro enthusiasts. It’s a subculture with its own production methods, dances and fashions, as can be seen and heard in all shades on her second album “Persimmon” (2022).
