Is this it? The rejuvenating elixir of contemporary jazz fusion? Anyone who thinks that’s putting it too strongly simply needs to catch Moses Yoofee, Roman Klobe, and Noah Fürbringer live on stage. The trio bring an eclectic energy to the table that isn’t exactly something you’d come across on any old street corner, particularly within the local scene. Wildly soaring solos, crisp drum fills executed with almost machine-like precision, echoes of early 90s British acid jazz, and incredibly fearless arrangements make this trio’s amalgam a delight for newcomers and connoisseurs of unconventional listening experiences alike. Although active since 2020 and honoured in 2024 with the German Jazz Award for a whole series of formidable live concerts, the Moses Yoofee Trio only appeared on the radar of local jazz enthusiasts last year with their debut album, “MYT” (2025), via Nils Frahm’s label, LEITER. Good things take time – and then linger in the moment. Not least for this reason, the thirteen stylistic miniatures on this album flirt with the trends of a present-day world caught between AI slop and streaming trends at precisely the right moment. What we have here are handcrafted works by artisans in the intoxication of a magical interplay that demands to be heard, seen, and felt with one’s own ears.
