NOTEP x NISATIWA
One project, one vision: bridging the gap between innovation and tradition for the here and now. What Nisatiwa and Notep have created is unprecedented in this form. The Thai duo and the accomplished musician combine classical Thai instruments such as the saw duang, phin or khaen with vintage beats at the crossroads of instrumental hip-hop and lo-fi production. The results are as organically arranged as they are electronically embellished, recall early creations by Bonobo or Emancipator, but with a distinctive Thai twist. Not least thanks to the authentic instrumentation and respect for their own cultural heritage, Notep and Nisatiwa’s intricate beat constructions stand out from the mass of stylistic crossovers and together they create a unique signature sound. The fact that, alongside dynamic live concerts, they also use their music to support environmental organisations like Greenpeace Thailand is testament to the overall artistic aspirations of this collaboration. For their premiere in Hamburg, they’ve put together a very special set that fans of eclectic sounds definitely shouldn’t miss.
