Hardly a month goes by without the Windmill scene in Brixton catapulting another superb band into the limelight. But last summer saw what are definitely one of the most interesting combos to come out of London emerge in the form of oreglo. Their debut EP ‘Not Real People’ (2024) reinvigorates contemporary jazz rock with its brilliant jams and was released by Gilles Peterson's prestigious Brownswood Recordings. But that's not all. Having Teigan Hastings as a virtuoso tuba player who is a core member of the band creates a unique, fresh sound. The quartet met through the youth organisation Tomorrow's Warriors, impressively underlining the relevance of such initiatives - talented people have come together here who are now achieving extraordinary things. Support from the likes of Steve Lamacq and Jack Saunders, Ezra Collective and The 1975 speaks for itself: oreglo can and will be the next big thing in British jazz. But before everyone realises it, you can catch them here in Hamburg first.
