Retrofile
From time to time, nothing sounds more contemporary than a reinterpretation of the past. Brothers Luke and Noah Martino blend the warm interplay of synthesizers and guitars, the melodic pop hooks of the 80s and the funky grooves of all disco revivals into a fitting collage of sounds with a highly catchy quality. Even if all the ingredients of songs like their debut single ‘Two Words’ (2017) or the electronically playful ‘Bad Dreams’ (2020) are familiar, Retrofile have uniquely found the recipe for their signature flavour of modern pop music. The title of their first EP “Heard It All Before” (2019) therefore doesn’t lack a certain irony, something the duo likes to toy with regardless. Countless sold-out concerts, a pandemic and two creative time-outs later, Retrofile have translated their all-night tinkering with fresh song ideas into their first studio album. ‘Comfort In A Crowd’ (2025) will be out this October, once again the name giving a tongue-in-cheek spoiler of what to expect: distinctive songwriting between new wave and modern pop sensibilities with familiar live qualities and more than one soft spot for shimmering melodies that stick.
