Although Francesca Morello is still something of an insider tip for eclectic club bangers in her native Italy, there are more structural than qualitative reasons for this. The DIY artist’s high-energy dance-punk is hard to beat in terms of immersive power and is likely to spread to other parts of Europe very soon through various DJ sets and word of mouth from her fans. From her debut, ‘Shameful Tomboy’ (2019), to the post-industrial electroclash gem ‘Everything Burns’ (2021) and last year’s ‘Deep Dark Blue’ (2024), a clear development can be recognised, which is reflected in Morello’s production values as well as in her urgent songwriting. From album to album, the self-confident electro-punker succeeds in expanding and refining all the qualities of her physical sound. Tracks such as ‘Cassandra’ (2021) are not only personal liberation songs, but also danceable anthems for the LGBTQ community, for which Morello demonstrates unwavering support under her alias, R.Y.F. Live, she is quite an experience.
