Slate
Rarely does a band delight die-hard fans of a genre and newcomers alike while also tapping into the transient zeitgeist. Slate not only achieved this delicate feat last year with their debut EP ‘Deathless’ (2024), but also earned themselves a reputation as an outstanding live combo from their hometown of Cardiff across the UK. The quartet plies a dark iteration of vibrant post-punk that borrows gleefully from the gothic rock of early Swans albums while also recalling the darkly melancholic sound of Ireland's Fontaines D.C.. Nonetheless, Slate are their own special beast, with an inimitable psychedelic fuzz and doomsday poetry that looks the trials and tribulations of our times square in their ugly face. It's also why singer Jack Shepherd likes to recite his own poetry on stage between songs, frequently lending him a touch of Jim Morrison - a comparison he’s well aware of and masterfully knows how to leverage. From the bars and clubs of Cardiff, their first gig was the Great Escape Festival in Brighton, then came the much-acclaimed late night show at the Molotow here in Hamburg - and now they’re finally coming to us.
