Sonic Interventions
An ensemble that is as international as it is interdisciplinary has been causing a stir in Berlin’s underground scene for a good half a decade – and of course, hardly anyone outside the scene has taken notice. But Sonic Interventions have everything it takes to become a real sensation in the local jazz scene – something that they already are to many fans out their. Their debut album, “Do You Remember?” (2024), is still one of the most exciting stylistic fusions that can be heard in the capital’s vibrant music scene these days. Physical Afrobeat collides with groovy funk, the dynamism of a tight-knit big band with the danceability of Latin American cumbia as well as with hip-hop and house. The collective’s name was, of course, not chosen merely for its cool sound. Instead, it perfectly captures the dynamic energy of their jams and the recording process. Nor is it a coincidence that the concerts of this diaspora combo – featuring members from five continents – are consistently sold out. Anyone wishing to experience the unbridled energy of their shows for themselves should mark the ensemble’s Reeperbahn debut firmly in their calendars.
