Trustfundbabes
The beat rumbles out of the speakers like a tuned Schwalbe moped, guitars and synths light up in sparkling frills, and the lyrics always remain as pointed as they are laconic. Who in God’s name is that? The combo has five members, comes from Berlin, mixes cheeky post-punk with lustfully jazzed-up borrowings from the New German Wave, and has gained a small but enthusiastic fanbase in the last two years thanks to singles such as ‘Zuerst’ (2023) and ‘Schöne Möbel’ (2024). In good-old Berlin scene tradition, elements of new wave and dance punk are also added to give the band’s style the necessary verve and stage presence. In any case, the Trustfundbabes have more than enough of that to go around, as a few lucky people have already experienced at group’s rare gigs. Anyone who hasn’t gotten the message with wonderfully groovy dancefloor material such as ‘Was wenn ich’s mach’ (2024) is truly helpless. Everyone else will get the chance to go wild with us in September – before the hype-train chugs away.
