VILLANELLE
Being the son of one of Britain’s undisputed rock legends gives Gene Gallagher more than a few aces up his sleeve to kick-start his own career. They’re big footsteps to follow in, but the young gun has already proven he’s up to the job with his band Villanelle. In summer 2024, he supported his father on the sold-out “Definitely Maybe” tour, which drew hundreds of thousands of fans to UK stadiums to mark the 30th anniversary of the Britpop classic. Villanelle had only been around for a few months at the time and didn’t have one release to their name. The band came about with Ben Taylor on guitar, Jack Schiavo on bass and Andrew Richmond on drums and quickly started to forge a style somewhere between the in-your-face power of the Arctic Monkeys and the dirty grunge of Nirvana. The band are yet to release a record, but have some impressive live shows under their belt already - and that’s exactly what we’ll be seeing from them here in Hamburg, with previously unheard material.
