Whether in a unicorn costume or a glittery tutu, whether in an infinity pool at 30 degrees Celsius or in a dollar suit during a money shower: Yetundey is breathing new life into the German hip-hop scene and doesn’t mince her words. For over half a decade, the rapper and singer has been celebrating her own style mix of electro and R&B, Afrobeat and pop, EDM and trap, with which she dislocates jaws and regularly gives the monotonous drone of German rap a good thrashing. She herself calls her sound ‘tribal hip-hop’, and with EPs such as ‘Black Friday’ (2021) and ‘Primetime’ (2023), she creates highly acclaimed underground gems that are also appreciated by the music press. Inspired by UK greats such as Skepta and Little Simz, Yetundey spits wild lines in German, French, and English over virtuosically constructed beats. Tracks with a tingling effervescent taste such as ‘Goodie’ and ‘Viel zu viele Fehler’ (2025) make it clear that the multilingual jack-of-all-trades is capable of mixing zeitgeist and retro-futurism, humour and artistry, bold sound design and substantive content into a sweet and sour cocktail without comparison. All self-produced and with rough edges, heart, and soul.
