Belako—hailing from Mungia (Biscay) and comprising Josu, Lore, Cris, and Lander—began their journey in May 2011. Siblings Josu and Lore started out playing covers of various bands; they were later joined by Cris and Ibon (who would eventually leave the group). Shortly thereafter, Lander—a native of Tolosa—joined the lineup, solidifying the band's definitive formation.
In March 2013, they released their debut full-length album, *EURIE*, which launched their first nationwide tour. They played over 50 shows between March and December 2013, performing at major festivals and venues such as Jazzaldia, Kutxa Kultur Festibala, Razzmatazz, Sala Apolo, and Sala BUT, while also supporting prominent artists and bands like Elvis Costello, Crystal Fighters, and Shout Out Louds.
In the summer of 2013, while mid-tour, they were selected as "FNAC Talent" (*Talento FNAC*), an honor that led to an expansion of their tour.
In June 2014, the band released the EPs *BELE BELTZAK BAINO EZ* and *AAAA!!!!*, making their mark in the world of independent music management and launching their own record label, BELAKO REKORDS.
These two new releases kicked off a summer tour that saw them perform at the country's most important festivals, including BBK Live, Primavera Sound, SOS 4.8, LOW Festival, BIG Festival, Dcode, Sonorama, Ebrovisión, and MadLive. Shortly after, they hit the road again for a tour of more than 30 venues across Spain. Before starting this tour, they won the Breakthrough Artist award from Rolling Stone magazine, and at its conclusion, they received the Best Emerging Artist award from the Independent Music Awards.

The tour extended into the summer of 2015, including appearances at other festivals such as FIB in Benicàssim. In August of that year, they began working on their new album, "HAMEN" (Belako Rekords, Mushroom Pillow), which was released in January 2016. The Hamen tour, which began before the album's release in November 2015, took them to over 100 concerts and led them to perform internationally in countries such as Portugal, England, Scotland, Mexico, and Germany. During this tour, they continued to receive prestigious awards, such as the RNE Critical Eye Award and the Best Live Performance Award at the Independent Music Awards. After a few special performances, such as the one at Suena Guernica in front of Picasso's painting, they traveled to the United Kingdom for a series of concerts in Scotland and England and had the opportunity to present the album at the Primavera Sound festival.
That same summer, they performed at various festivals—such as Mad Cool in Madrid and FIB in Benicàssim—and finished recording the aforementioned new album; however, the truly exciting moment for the band came in September, when they embarked on a world tour taking them to countries including Russia, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, the US, Germany, England, and Scotland.
2018 got off to an equally strong start: after releasing "Lungs"—the third single from *Render Me Numb, Trivial Violence* (following the earlier release of the track "Over The Edge")—they announced a tour for the highly anticipated album. This tour included stops in 15 cities across Spain, as well as performances at major international events such as the Vive Latino Festival in Mexico, SXSW in Austin, and the Community Festival in London.
In 2019, while preparing their new material, they announced a series of special festival appearances—including FIB Benicàssim, Europavox, Reading & Leeds, and Coordenada—and undertook a European tour that spring with DMA'S and Crystal Fighters, drawing a total audience of 45,000 people to venues across England and Europe.
2020 saw the release of *Plastic Drama*—an album self-produced by Belako Rekords under license from BMG International—which is perhaps the band’s most ambitious, reflective, and, above all, socially conscious work to date.
Its release was postponed from the original date of May 8 to August 28; with it, BELAKO cemented its status as the most internationally recognized indie rock band from Spain. Their first five advance singles
