To experience culture, you have to go to where it takes place. But how accessible are cultural events for people in wheelchairs or with other physical disabilities? Hamburg Leuchtfeuer invites you to join a tour that offers a fresh perspective: Led by a wheelchair user, we’ll explore the Reeperbahn Festival site and the Reeperbahn itself as a hotspot for club culture. Along the way, participants will experience first-hand the barriers that exist in general and at cultural events in particular. Kerbs, narrow paths, and a lack of ramps will become just as apparent as successful examples of accessibility. The tour is designed to encourage participants to engage in conversation, share experiences, and raise awareness of how important accessibility is for social and cultural participation. The tour is open to anyone interested, including cultural practitioners and festival-goers – whether on foot, in a wheelchair, or using other mobility aids.

The tour will start at the information desk at the Festival Village and is limited to a maximum of 20 participants. You will find a registration list at the starting-point of the tour, where you can secure one of the spaces from festival Wednesday on. A limited amount of these spaces will be reserved for people who decide to come along spontaneously, so don’t worry if the list is already full. Those spaces will be distributed first come first serve just before the start of the tour.
