Beate Dietrich
Beate is the project manager of the certified and award-winning mentoring program MEWEM for young female, trans and non-binary professionals in the music industry. The aim of MEWEM is to help ensure that more women, trans and non-binary people help shape the music industry in the long term – including in management positions and as founders – and to make them visible. MEWEM is certified by the German Society for Mentoring and won the IMPALA Changemaker Award together with MEWEM France in 2025. The mentoring program is conducted by the Association of Independent Music Entrepreneurs (VUT) nationwide once a year and is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
Beate has been on board at the VUT as a member service officer since 2019 and joined VUT Vielfalt, the network for strengthening diversity and equality in the music industry, in 2021. Here she took over the coordination of the German mentoring program as part of MEWEM Europe (“Mentoring Programme for Women Entrepreneurs in Music Industry”) and is now running the fourth edition of MEWEM as project manager.
Beate has many years of experience in the music industry. She has worked for a label, a booking agency and a publishing house. She realized early on that there were far too few women, trans and non-binary people in the industry - both on stage and in companies, but especially in management positions.
Beate has already been a mentor herself at the Centre for Transdisciplinary Gender Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin and at the “mARTS” mentoring program at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig and founded a network of mentoring programs in the music industry in Germany in 2024. She is also a member of the jury for Musicboard Berlin's label funding program.
