
Katja Lucker
Katja Lucker, who was born in northern Germany, has been Managing Director of Initiative Musik since January 2024. She has many years’ experience at the intersection of cultural management, music funding and the creative industries.
Her professional career began in Berlin in 1990 as an actress, before she successfully established herself as a cultural manager. Her career highlights include roles at the Kesselhaus in the Kulturbrauerei, the Karneval der Kulturen, numerous projects in the field of contemporary music, and the Haus der Berliner Festspiele, where she was involved in projects with Karlheinz Stockhausen, amongst others. From 2007 to 2012, she worked as a project manager for the creative industries as part of the European Capital of Culture programme, RUHR.2010.
She gained nationwide recognition in particular for setting up Musicboard Berlin, which she headed for eleven years from 2012 on behalf of the State of Berlin, bringing fresh impetus to Berlin’s pop music scene. In this role, she founded, amongst other things, the Pop-Kultur Festival and organised Berlin’s Fête de la Musique.
Since January 2024, as managing director of Initiative Musik, Katja Lucker has been responsible for the nationwide support of artists, live music and music businesses in Germany, and is working on the further development of music funding structures at national level.
