Rainer Schmidt studied economics in Bonn, Baroda (India), and Göttingen, followed by international journalism in London. After a traineeship at the Frankfurter Rundschau, he moved to London as an editor at the BBC World Service, later becoming an editor at Zeit Magazin, reporter for Spiegel-Reporter, and deputy editor-in-chief of Max and Vanity Fair, as well as editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone. Since mid-2016, he has been the responsible editor of Frankfurter Allgemeine Quarterly. He is also the author of a non-fiction book and several novels. He is the founder and presenter of the literary salon "Writers´ Thursday" (Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt).
