
Sonja Heiss
Director, screenwriter and author Sonja Heiss studied at the “Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München” and graduated in 2006 with her first feature film HOTEL VERY WELCOME. The movie premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and won a FIRST STEPS AWARD, among others. In 2016, her next feature film HEDI SCHNEIDER STECKT FEST was again presented at the Berlinale and her original screenplay was nominated for the German Film Award. Her adaptation of Joachim Meyerhoff's novel WANN WIRD ES ENDLICH WIEDER SO WIE ES NIE WAR also premiered at the Berlinale. The Film ranked among the most successful German productions in 2023 and was nominated for the German Film Awards as "Best Film" and " Best Director". In 2024 she cowrote and directed the 3rd Season of the Series DEADLINES that won the award for best series at the Filmfest Hamburg. She just finished the filming of her new movie RAGING MOMS. In addition to her work as a filmmaker, Sonja Heiss published the short story collection DAS GLÜCK GEHT AUS in 2011 and her highly acclaimed debut novel RIMINI in 2017, which "demonstrates with its supple language how thrilling literature can be, when it peers fearlessly into the human abyss” (DER SPIEGEL). Sonja Heiss also works as an advertising film director, writes short stories and articles for magazines and teaches as a guest lecturer at various German film schools.
