Channelled as a crazy idea, Carsick got together during a boozy pub night in autumn 2021. Their first single, ‘Muzzle’ (2022), crashed into the British music scene with a blunt, no-fucks-given attitude and was responsible for countless neck problems from BBC Radio 6 to Noizze to Distorted Sound Mag. Whether live on stage or in your after-work playlist, there’s no other way: With the lustfully jammed punk rap of their debut EP, ‘Drunk Hymns’ (2023), resistance is futile, and flexible head-nodding is the name of the game. Thanks to live sessions at the BBC, legendary gigs from Cologne to Berlin, and a two-month headlining tour of the UK later, Carsick have established themselves as legitimate reformers of this sound that originated in the 90s. With music that lies somewhere between nostalgic indie rock vibes, the post-punk revival of the Windmill Scene, and hip-hop elements, the four hype beasts logically rock their way across the stages of Europe, dropping one banger after another. Most recently, the magnificently groovy ‘Pub Watch’ and the feel-good hit of the summer ‘Backseat’ demonstrate that the musicians have mastered these songwriting qualities and can bring them into new forms. The result is one of the most intense concert experiences of the present day.
