Donny Benét is a busy man. Over the past two decades, this Australian disco troubadour with Italian roots has built a reputation as a live performer who is as versatile as he is stylish, conjuring up a cinematic evolution on stage. He started out as a bassist in Sydney jazz combos before striking out on his own with Tom Jones covers and a series of charming synth-funk albums like “Weekend At Donny’s” (2014) and “Mr. Experience” (2020), and quickly earned cult status Down Under for his affectionate, comedy-infused live shows. His breakout track “Konichiwa” (2020) landed on a handpicked playlist by The Weeknd, and the accompanying album soared to the top of the ARIA charts. Inspired by dazzling personalities like Prince, Alan Vega, and Lou Reed, the multi-instrumentalist has since pursued his own unique vision of the post-disco sound, integrating sophisti-pop, funktronica, and Italian verve alongside increasingly complex instrumental arrangements. His new album “Il Basso” (2026) also impresses with a blend of catchiness, playful sophistication, and plenty of humor – qualities that make him the perfect choice for a gig with us.
