LIONSTORM
As the Netherlands’ first explicitly queer music duo, Lionstorm have seized every opportunity in recent years to shatter expectations and clubs alike. Whether with EPs such as “Kannibalisme & Masturbatie” (2022) or live performances blending clownish aesthetics, physical bass storms and subversive gestures: Ski and Stars are two thoroughbred musicians with a unique flair for the radically non-conformist. Tracks of the calibre of “Daddy’s Pussy” or “Exxxplain This” (2023) are at times reminiscent of the disruptive force with which The Prodigy descended upon the music industry in the 1990s and Die Antwoord in the 2010s. And yet Lionstorm are quite different, endowed with more sizzling eroticism, more energy and ecstasy, and in some respects also significantly more eclectic. Here, reggaeton and industrial metal slap each other on the arse, whilst venom-spitting rap and horrorcore shred all conventional taboos to confetti in the frenzy of a club night. Their latest single, “You Should C Me In A Crowd” (2025), plays with this style as if it were something best left unmentioned here for the sake of protecting minors. Anyone who wants to experience it for themselves should head to Hamburg in September.
