SALVIA
Death was a constant reality when Nicole Selivan was growing up in Kiev. The confident musician’s father and mother worked for years as undertakers, and she herself developed an early fascination for existential themes and the dark sound of the post-punk movement. Then, three years ago, the war in Ukraine changed everything, bringing transience and loss to life with unimaginable force. Nicole fled to Brussels, where she met Arno De Ros and Tom Stokx from The Haunted Youth and wasted no time in forming a band with them. Salvia was born. A project with the surreal atmosphere of dream pop, the driving beats of new wave and the dark energy of legends like The Cure and Lebanon Hanover. ‘In our capitalist world with its commercialised music, I want to create a place where people are, above all, human beings,’ says the young singer and songwriter in an interview. She has created just that place with her debut single ‘Time’. From here, the journey continues into an uncertain future , which, thanks to Salvia, will definitely have the right soundtrack.
