In Alice Costelloe’s work, the deeply personal meets the universally relatable; diary entries turned into songs are set to the understated instrumentation of a sensitive, independent bedroom producer. Until a few years ago, the British singer–songwriter had primarily been known as one-half of the dream-pop duo Big Deal, but since 2022, she has also been making a name for herself with solo productions. Initially known only to connoisseurs of the British indie scene, she then gradually gained recognition in other circles with EPs such as “So Neurotic” (2023) and “When It’s The Time” (2024), where her dreamy art pop evokes comparisons with Cate Le Bon and Hannah Cameron. Whilst the similarities are hard to deny, Costelloe’s music is more introspective, characterised by a certain understatement that makes her songs feel more emotional and – in a way – more nostalgic. On her debut album, “Move On With The Year” (2026), she explores the difficult relationship with an estranged parent and all the emotional uncertainties that come with it. Nevertheless, she finds a calm, even relaxed way of dealing with this subject matter in song form – and in so doing, she offers a source of strength. Alice Costelloe is talent who has demonstrated her qualities as a young, open-hearted songwriter and has rightly built anticipation for her gig with us in Hamburg.
