Emi X surfs the crest of the zeitgeist along the fluid transitions between internet culture and collective thought. Beneath her, a board of hyperpop and pulsating Eurotrance beats; above her, the sky as a space without limits through which desires and hopes glide just as well as the feeling of life in limbo. Sometimes, she brings this sound to the fore in collaboration with Dilla, as in ‘Photosynthese’ and ‘Unter ihrem Dress’ (2021), but sometimes solo, as in ‘Profilbild/NieGehört’ (2023) – the perfect soundtrack for the end of a relationship – and in her latest single, ‘Ichwillnur>.<’ (2025), which nods to Blümchen in the 90s while looking ahead with hope. The self-made producer fuses poetically refined self-irony with futuristic BPM fireworks and the intoxication of the digital world that has us all firmly in its grip in the new twenties. The result is both electrifying and unsettling. It’s bittersweet bubble-gum chaos, an experiment in sound design, and eccentric visualisation distilled into unconditional bangers. In short: It’s the perfect soundtrack for a generation that can – and must – urgently change everything in the coming years.
