New Constellations
Even as teenagers, Harlee Case and Josh Smith were making music together and shared a passion for the shimmering nostalgia of the deep eighties. Their first jams took place in Josh’s bedroom during high school; ideas flew around, but the sound they were searching for hadn’t yet materialised. Fate took its time, with a 15-year hiatus, before finally bringing the two together again for an unexpected reunion in 2015. The spark was reignited immediately – only this time with a wealth of experience from which they could draw as New Constellations. In 2021, they first caused a stir in the US with their debut single “Hot Blooded”. But over the next few years, the song, alongside others such as “Think It Over” (2022) and “Sun Chasing The Rain” (2024), becomes a much-loved soundtrack for those summer evenings that stay with us for a lifetime. Generously saturated synth cascades, melodies like dopamine rushes and a cohesive, pastel-hued sound design are what the Portland duo have welded together to create this incredibly modern retro sound, for which they are still not widely known. Now, over nine years after their formation, their debut album “It Comes In Waves” (2026) is finally being released, showcasing the project in full bloom.
