Rosa Damask
For Anastasia Reigel, the true catharsis begins before she even steps into the studio to work on her songs. It’s in the creative process where the singer and DIY artist finds redemption. At the same time, as Rosa Damask, she channels her deepest emotions through a palette of creaking pedals, matte-black depths and whispering vocals. On her debut album “Memorials” (2021), rejection and longing, obsession and redemption serve as thematic threads that she uses to situate and explore her own inner life. The rhythms pound with industrial force, the bass growls with maximum down-tuning, whilst the minor-key melodies drill into the memory like screws and linger for a long time. Nevertheless, her chrome-plated post-punk seems just as internally torn and restless as it is allowed to be, should be, must be in the new 2020s. It’s no coincidence that “Adore You” (2024) was released by the tastemakers at Downwards and that her song “Bored” unexpectedly appeared at the Versace FW25 show in Milan a year later. This sound struts elegantly while captivating the ear just as effectively, taking all the time in the world to stir up your inner desire. Anybody up for the climax shouldn’t miss her gig with us.
